I hope that they are able to organize for safety and to bring relief.

Indeed! The kind of thing that the general public should be more aware of! I hope that Some mainstream media source covered this.

Could "They" be we?

There are tremendous resources sitting idle in hangers all over the US with sympathetic, large hearted old guys who are asking "What can I do to help." There will be another disaster someplace in the future.

Re: The kind of Publicity that General Aviation Needs

IMHO the problem will be meshing the "large hearted old guys" into an existing effective, efficient aide effort.
Think of a bunch of C172's lined up with the C130 Herc's, waiting to get loaded up with pallets of relief supplies.
Or someone with a van full of pampers, bottled water, or whatever,
showing up to a supply depot where everything is containerized and/or palletized.
It just doesn't work.

A big effort needs to be made well ahead of any emergency to come up with a system where GA pilots and aircraft can fit in.
It has been done in other regions, now there is a similar program in my area attempting to do just that--
"Disaster Airlift Response Plan" or DART.
Here's a newspaper article about it.

Well, your probably right. Maybe next time somebody will do something, maybe the government will take care of it. It probably would not be any fun anyway, and too many problems might come up and we probably don't have the ability to mitigate failure. Might not be safe either. General aviation doesn't need that kind of publicity. Old guys.....ya know.

OK, so there is a positive report of GA pilots helping out

Could "They" be we?

Yes, could be we, but if this has inspired you, then what about you?

Again, if you think this is important, what are you doing, i mean besides complaining about old guys? Maybe a little less self sanctimony and a little more positive input might just be worthwhile.
