The purpose of Accident Analysis

I'm guilty of this as well: simply reporting news stories about air crashes, and it seems it's become a daily blog of crash reports. That's sobering in itself considering how many of these stories appear in the first page of topics.

Keep in mind though that the point of this forum is to analyze and attempt learn something from the mistakes of others, whether it be the cause of the crash, or some insight in to the decision making of the accident pilot.

I suggest that we reserve posting these crash reports for the stories where we actually have enough information about the crash to discuss the cause and possible prevention. It's generally assumed that we wish the best for the families and survivors, so discuss and speculate reasonably without fear of appearing insensitive. That's the point of the forum.

I do not agree completely with you. I want to know, immediately, if there was a crash. I want all of the information that I can get
about it. There may be some way that some of us who live near the scene could help. It may be, as in the last case, one of our friends. I think most of us would like to know that sooner rather than later.

The results of most accident investigations take a long time to be published. I do agree that we should not jump to conclusions about causes. The news articles are many times in error. It would be non productive to place fault or blame until all of the facts are presented.

Has anyone in Helena checked on the pilot's wife at the hospital to see if she needs anything? This is the kind of support I think we should offer.

Like I said, this forum is for analysis of the accident for learning purposes. If you want to start a "How Can I Help the Family" topic, do so in the Community forum.
