Re: The river

motoadve,

I think I saw some energy management in the early steeper turns. Be sure you anticipate the turn, pull up wings level, and then put the nose back down onto the river. This trade of cruise airspeed for altitude and then trading that altitude, gained wings level, for gravity thrust in the descending turn back onto the middle of the river creates no load factor in the turn. You can also add power in the turn to make up for the lift lost, but this pushes you toward the outside of the turn like a strong current. Just pulling back in the turn will always cause load factor problems and possibility mush. Once in a mush, the only solution is more power, if you have it, and wings level. This leads to trouble when no more power is available and or there are trees ahead if we go wings level. Staying ahead of the airplane and using the energy management, no load factor, turn is soo much more comfortable.

Re: The river

It is a much harder, with so much power, to teach energy management. It becomes critical, in more powerful aircraft, when at high density altitude and/or when heavily loaded.

Re: The river

Nice video of a nice river.

I'm going to Cabuya, near Tambor in Costa Rica 3 weeks in January. If you think landing near Tambor, let me know!
