The Turn for Home

The same onshore flow that clouded my arrival was back to say goodbye.
Image
Image
In over Palmdale, out over Palm Springs on one of those rare days without blue skies.

Image
Visiting old friends is good. I didn’t know a soul in Parker and decided to spend a day beside the river.
Image
Image
Blue River Casino was busy, but not expensive…
Image
and I had a room with a view.
Image
After a short hop and a couple days in Phoenix and I said my last goodbyes.
Teterboro on a Monday morning doesn’t hold a candle to Deer Valley Image
Image
but, finally, I was on my way to one of the most beautiful and remote parts of the country…northern Arizona and eastern Utah.
Image
On the way I passed the intriguing plateaus south of Camp Verde...
Image
like aircraft carriers on a sea of mountains…
Image
the distinctive colors and shapes that are Sedona…
Image
Image
and the moonscape of Sunset Crater northeast of Flagstaff.
Image
Then the landscape got interesting…
Image
passing Wupatki National Monument…
Image
and entering the Painted Desert.
Image
Image
Image
Image
Running up along the Navajo Trail El Capitan was visible in the distance. I’ve covered all this ground on two wheelers and it’s hard to describe the epiphany when the elevated perch of aviation weaves it all together.
Image
Navajo Mountain and the incongruous blue of Lake Powell appeared…
Image
Image
then No Man’s Mesa…
Image
and Monitor Butte…
Image
as I crossed the San Juan River and dropped into Cal Black Memorial for fuel.
Image
Just a splash for insurance… for even though 66V (Bluff International…my RON) is only 50 mi. away…
Image
Goosenecks State Park…
Image
Image
Image
Image
and Monument Valley still beckon.
Image
Image
Image
Image
Really though, after almost too much eye candy for one day and better than 4 hours in the air and I was done.
So, it’s back past Mexican Hat…
Image
and the San Juan Inn, tucked away in the elbow of US-163 where it crosses the river..
Image
and I’m down for the night…

in Bluff, UT.

Re: The Turn for Home

I really appreciate your taking time to comment on my posts. I was aprehensive starting out that what I was doing might not be of interest to folks who can get their excitement in double expresso doses flying in and out of short challenging strips, but Jr. Cub Builder nailed it...the "visual adventure" of flying is the common ground we all can stand on...thanks again./ LT

Are you kidding? Everybody loves to look at stuff like that, what is in your back yard is as exotic and strange to me as the glaciers and ice caps may be to you.

Thanks for posting the pics.

Did I like them? I emailed this thread address to most of my email contacts to share the "view"! I fly the west and SW occasionally, but you captured the essence....... =D>
