Nice bull, nice strip... heaven
Flying gets you to the bugling quick. Here's a bow bull from two years ago.

Good job Mike, lots of room for stuff in a Bonanza. Shot this bull back in 2009. Got a plan for next year too.

James,
You look exactly like my bow hunting partner/cousin in that last picture. Eery. I'll try to post a pic.
My wife and I used to horse pack into the deep recesses of the sawtooth wilderness and usually got a 5 or 6 point every year but in the last 6 years or so, the elk population has been decimated by wolves in our favorite drainage. Hear them every night. Tracks all over. No elk.
So, I had to adjust from our wilderness back breaking all day survival fest to bow hunting near Garden Valley. We stay in a freaking cabin and watch BSU football even. But its decent hunting with usually an opportunity every year.
So the plan is to do the bow hunt in Sept. but I'm really looking hard for another rifle area as well. (in Idaho). I went to New Mexico last year (hunting was lousy but at least the food was marginal). This next year I've promised my son in Bozeman that I'd come up and go with him. That's usually later in the year.
Man, I'm really salivating over a short field bush plane like you all have. Lots of great spots I know but the bonanza just cant do it. We need the speedy plane for transport between our work sites and it manages our grass strip very well in Cascade but I really would like to land on some canyon rim somewhere and hunt chukar.........

Mike,
I can't haul as much as an A-36 but I still can cram quite a bit of gear in my Maule. Going wolf hunting on snowshoes this weekend with all the fresh snow. If nothing else, I will burn up some calories. Its a long shot, but a guy will never shoot a wolf if he doesn't try. Maybe I'll try some predator calling, or hopefully find a fresh kill site. I'm not a fan of the Canadian wolves.

James,
Good luck on the wolf hunt. As a farmer said when I asked him for permission to shoot a large antelope on his field: "Son, I can't give you permission to shoot one but if you want to shoot all his brothers and sisters too, you have my blessing".
Would like to meet you sometime. You'll have to fly down to Cascade this summer. Plenty of room and you can land in front of the house. I'll try to message you my cell.
Mike
