For the second time in as many weeks I have a friend who wants to comment, but can't create an account. As a side note, this is the guy who actually got me started in flying. He got his ticket, bought a Cub and then moved to Kauai and abandoned aviation! Here's his input:
Cool, thanks for the reference Rich!
Unfortunately I cannot register, I get his page:

If I could I would add:
1) respect Kauai. too often people spend a lot of time/effort/money
getting here and thus once they arrive they feel that Kauai owes them
something. Please do not have that attitude. Have an attitude to love
whatever Kauai gives you and it will love you back.
2) stay off the reef. The rocky bits under the water where the fish
hang out and where the coral tries to grow is not rocks, it is reef and
it is suffering.
3) Be careful in the ocean. Sharks will not hurt you but the water
might. 14 people have died in the water this year (a record number).
Definitely get in the water, just talk to a life guard and avoid
occluded beaches.
4) Wings over Kaua'i
http://www.wingsoverkauai.com/ will let you fly the
plane as 'a lesson'. They cannot let you solo but you can sit left
seat. The owner is a flight instructor. They have a great operation going.
