I've been reviewing the posts on "Where did I fly today", looking over a bunch of pictures and thinking of all of the trips and sights of the year. I've been lucky to meet a few people from this site and made many new aquaintences in our new home. There have also been quite a few landmark notes in the log book too. Not including the 19 hours logged coming up to AK, (MTV, you were right, it would have been a VERY long one day trip!), we have added another 75 hours since May. Of the lessons learned:
700' for a strip, given the right conditions, is OK. Not only that, but very satisfying. MVFR is rated a little differently up here. Still, not to be taken lightly. Flight planning takes on a whole new meaning when the nearest fuel can be a couple of hundred miles away. No matter where you are, stopping to see if you can give a guy a hand is a survival skill because what comes around, goes around. Life is about living and not the job. No matter what you do. There is nothing more satisfying than watching your kid bring in a big fish. I never envisioned myself being a cheer leader but boy do I get into it!
The year isn't out yet, there is still a lot of time to log and I'm quite premature to be doing "year end notes" but it has been fun. Thanks to those that I've met in the passing. Thanks to the patience of those that have endured my many questions and here's to those that may be in my future.
I have the skis prepped and waiting for a little more snow and the final for freeze up to begin learning those skills.
Keep on all of you with the notes of the daily flights. We make our own luck.
