Metalized fuse AND tri-gear! You don't need a hangar and just think how much lower your insurance would be without that bedeviled tailwheel hanging off the ass end #-o

Only..

...the second Tri-gear Stinson I have ever seen. Saw another one in the hangar at Custer State Park Airport, Black Hills about 5 years ago. I am a tailwheel lover....but this could be a pretty sweet airplane.

I'm not trying to start the whole tail / nose wheel thing. I love nosedraggers just as much as taildraggers. I just think the Stinson looks funny with a nosewheel on it.

Man, talk about a low time airframe for how old it is. I think it looks like a good deal for someone who loves Stinsons but wants a nosewheel.

A guy at Meadowlake just completed a Tri-Champ restore. Pretty awesome bird. He liked the idea so much he is starting another one.

I'd have it. Doesn't matter where the wheel is or how nice the plane, it is always better up there than down here!

Re: This Stinson makes me wanna vomit!

I know a few guys that have converted strait tail 182s to tail wheel configuration. Then they tried to join the Sky Wagon Club. That nose in the air outfit would not let them in cus the serial number on there plane said Skylane.

If sombody bought me a lottery ticket (would never buy one for myselfe) and I won a lot of money, I would buy a 180 and convert it to a nose wheel plane then join their club. Serial number would be corect. Then I would show up at their party.

Tim - so how do those Sky Wagon guys react to floatplanes that don't drag any kind of wheel, fore or aft?

Sheesh ... there's enough snobs in the world without trying to divvy up the pilots according to what kind of wings they own. Flying is flying, and it's all great as long as it's safe.

If you notice the man that got the STC for the nose wheel is the seller. Certificate issue date was Oct. 30 1956 when he must have bought the plane.

You know even though I think it looks a bit funny...the Stinson is a great airplane either way.

Re: This Stinson makes me wanna vomit!

You have to keep in mind that when this conversion happened it was during that time period when nose wheel aircraft were becoming popular.

As far as the comments about the Skywagon owner's group being a bunch of snobs, think what you want. It's a really great group of guys and gals who like our planes. There are several other "type clubs" around. This just happens to be one for 180/185 aircraft. I don't see the foul in that.

Not calling anybody a snob - I just wrote that there's already too much snobbery in the world as it is without some flyers trying to keep other flyers out of their clubhouse, per Tim's story. It just seems to some of us who haven't been annointed that if people want to associate with your type club, and support what you're doing, then why exclude them? How does letting in a guy with a 182 conversion hurt you and your club? Maybe if you let them in, one day they'll graduate to a "real" Sky Wagon.

Re: This Stinson makes me wanna vomit!

I'm sorry nmflyguy, I don't have the answers to your questions. Looking back through the clubs archives the topic of having converted 182s in the club was discused. I know you may not believe me, but the majority of the members didn't see it being an issue allowing them in. It just didn't happen.

I'll be your friend Matt, as long as you don't move your tailwheel up to the nose and make my friend Tadpole vomit.

Re: This Stinson makes me wanna vomit!

I once read in the news that a TriPacer is converted to a taildragger by "simply removing the nose wheel and attaching it to the tail"
