Thomas Creek

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Thomas Creek

I flew into Thomas Creek last week for a night with a friend from Stanley. We hiked to Sunflower Flats Hot Springs to camp out, which was very cool! I highly recommend doing this same trip too any one. Thomas Creek is an easy strip you could land most anything at. The hike is pretty short, about 4 miles round trip from the airstrip. The camping at the airstrip is nice too, but you don't have any nice warm soaking pools and a shower. Unfortunately due to weather we did not get to fly around the Frank Church as much as I wanted too, so the only other strip we landed on back there was Mahoney Creek, still a fun trip though. It's great to be able to get MoGas at Smiley Creek!

Here are a few pictures:

Backcountry essentials! The Backpackers Pantry - Chicken & Dumps is by far one of the best dehydrated meals out there!

Rafters utilizing the shower. You can sort of see the shower to the right of the guy wearing green that is standing up on the bank. The soaking pools are above that in the rocks. There are two bigger ones and about four smaller ones. The upper pool is the hottest, while the lower one was a much better temperature for me.

Re: Thomas Creek

That is a fun trip. My wife and I did the same in April a few years back. Sunflower is my favorite hotspring on the Middle Fork with Loon a close second. Thanks for sharing.
