Thoughts on an inflight, electrically adj. propellor
Lycoming, Continental, Hartzell, McCauley, or any broad spectrum drive system component used on multiple type.
Recently I have been thinking of adjusting my 75" Whirlwind prop to get a little shorter take off roll, but, there is a price to be paid. Has anyone looked into, done an electric inflight adjustable propellor, thoughts, pro's/cons?? My application would be a rans s7 with a 912ULS/big bore.
Thanks Gary

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

I flew a kitfox w/912ULS and the airmaster system. It was pretty awesome. The max climb to cruise settings were very noticeable. I'm not sure how much the system costs, but it felt worth it to me.

Takes you out of the LSA category, if that's a concern. Adds weight, doesn't help a bit landing, adds complexity and possible long term maintenance issues.
Having said that, if I had a gofast (relatively speaking) like a RV 12, or some Euro slick glass small tired LSA, I would have one in a heartbeat. For a slow draggy big tired plane like my S-7S, the advantages are lesser, I think I remember they add about 20 pounds? Play around with your WW pitch settings before you buy one, that won't cost anything, and won't add weight!

We installed an Ivo inflight adjustable on our 300hp Bearhawk. It was about 6 pounds heavier than the ground adjustable. We found that where it really made a difference was at higher altitude and it was great for slowing down for landing. Flying around locally ( SL to 4000') we never changed it much but above 5000' the prop seamed to lose bite faster than the engine lost power so we would ad some pitch for higher altitude take offs and the same for cruising at 10,000'. The electric props move about 1/5 the speed of the standard constant speed units. We also found it worked well if we wanted to land real short as we found that in fine pitch and throttle closed the plane was much slower than if the prop was at mid pitch. The only additional maintenance was we replaced the pitch control brushed every year during the annual, mostly because they were cheap so we just included that as part of the program. All in all we were very happy with the inflight adjustable system once we figured out what settings worked best for us at different conditions.

One of the tings that brought this up was a friend telling me about a company coming up with one(Acme) and he thought it would be pretty cool, and I couldn't find out anything about it on the net, other than there was a company name Acme that did boat propellors.
I was hoping for a significant improvement in take offs, thought there might be landing advantages, and the obvious hope to retain or improve on cruise speed.
CG, what is your idle rpm?
Thanks Gary

As low as 12-1300 rpm, (and smooth!) since I did the 1" crossover mod, though I usually idle it at 16-1800
