Mine was just about to learn to fly until we lost an engine on take off. All turned out ok but took the fun out of flying for her and I guess a little for me too.

Why is that? Mine wont either, she comes along with me sometimes, but refuses to touch the controls

Mine flies better than I do

The financial burden of my owning a plane are stressful at the moment, 'tis true, but I just can't imagine selling her :!:

I dunno if this makes anyone feel better but Im a pilot for a living and I am already looking for a job other than flying. I cant afford to do it, per diem and 10.00 an hour for office work for a total of 10 hrs a week if i manage to even have that much work...not worth it anymore, would rather work a job like dispatching and get paid 3x as much and wouldnt have to deal with hotels and what not.....at least you get to do it for a hobby and dont have to rely on it for a living...I wish i could be i your shoes even if it was tough. just a different point of view :) good luck though!

There's always Alaska. Granted, it will be in a C207, and in Bethel, but at least you'll be up there and flying 1000+ hours a year. Yute Air and Grant are usually hiring year round, and provide housing.

Yeah I thought about Alaska many times however I have a 4 year old boy and an ex that probably wouldn't go for it, however when he is old enough I will probably start making my way up there for the summers and then work my way into a full time job....perhaps...that would be the dream, I could care less what I flew just as long as Im doing it enough! Talking in here keep sme motivated!

There's a big Catch-22 to AK flying Part 135. Once you get a couple seasons of AK time in (especially float time), you can pretty much get a job anywhere just by showing up and being a warm body to sit in a seat. But.. It's hard to get that first job with NO Alaska time.

That's why Bethel, and the C207 outfits there, are where a large percentage of new hires go. Not many guys want to live there, and the flying conditions for the most part suck pond water. But if you do it, you WILL learn how to fly an overgross airplane in absolute shit weather, in the dark, covered with ice, and t/o and land with consistant 20-40 KT crosswinds on rutted up, narrow, hard to see runways.

And you'll come to love the Cessna 207. One of the most amazing aircraft ever built.

Been there done that and trying to come back, one more time.
I threw in the towel and sold my M4 in the mid 90's. Came back in 2000 and got my commercial ticket. Got a job flying an ag-plane in 2001. Had an non-flying accident and lost it all the month before I was to start spraying.
Now, I'm scheduled for a medical exam next week. If all goes well with that I'll start a flight review next weekend.
Healhtwise, I'm ready as I'll ever be at 54. Financially, I guess I need to stay home, But I ain't.....
One day my boat will come in and I hope I'm not at the airport. When it does, I will own another Maule.
A mans got to have a dream, right?

Real pilots fly airplanes built in Moultrie.
Real good pilots fly airplanes that are yellow and smell like poison.

Save the towel!

Strata,
Buddy I feel your pain. I've always been reluctant to take a partner. I went from a "65" 172, to a "54" 180, and then back to a "60" 182. Tail wheel insurance was killing me, so I flew less because of it and really didn't stay competent in tail wheel aircraft. The 182 will perform almost as well as the 180, insurance is less than half. But still with 2 teens it's tough. My wife knows I'm either at work, home in the shop or at the airport. She tells me to get in the air once in awhile. A lack of flying turns one in the the Hyde part of Jeckle and Hyde. I get to be a grouch without a doubt and people may big circles to avoid my company.

Good luck in whatever decision you make, not sure what other post I read, but someone said we're enablers, Yep that be me.

BTW my 182 is at 1398 hours with a 1500 TBO, so a big buck flush is coming up. So comes the thought of something less again.
