Oh...you Californians and your stationary high! I'm in Washington and we have been getting snow/rain/wind for several days, and lots of it. Trees down, power outages, stranded vehicles, flooded roads, mudslides. The power is flickering as I write. I wouldn't be surprised if we get 4-5 inches of rain today.

I think we would take some wind to get some precip at this point. Ski Resorts are not happy having already lost out on Thanksgiving.

Tell ya' what, I'll send you a jar of H.P. and you send it back with some precip. ;-)

According to the TV news tonight, today was the second wettest day ever recorded in the Seattle/Puget Sound area. This warm rain came on the heels of 2 days of snowfall, so now we have lots of flooded rivers, roads, homes, yards, etc. All lanes of I-5 are under water south of Olympia (near Chehalis) and it is closed for at least the next 36 hours.
The creek that runs out of the Olympic foothills and alongside my property is roaring, but not really too many problems in my immediate area. For whoever's caught in the flooding-- good luck and hang in there.

Butch,

I was up here in dry NorCal. I did get down to S.D. for Thanksgiving though. Did the Midway tour on Friday. Kinda' cool looking out of the bridge and across the channel at the Nimitz and Ronald Reagan.
My daughter told me it had dumped the day before. We're sorta' in between right now waiting for this lousy high to break down. Sounds odd for a pilot to say that I guess...

There was a dike on the Chehalis River that failed and flooded the area of the Chehalis airport KCLS ( a K-Mart, WalMart, Strip Mall, Manufactured Home Center, Auto Dealership, etc.). which is adjacent to I-5 which is closed for 20 miles (south of Olympia at exit 88 to south of Chehalis at exit 68 ). All highway traffic is being re-routed up the Columbia Gorge and then north to I-90 to get west again, about three times the extra distance.

The news footage I saw showed only the hangar rooftops among the sea of flooding. The mall revealed water up 3-4 feet on the buildings and car rooftops in the parking lot. I was told there is a birm of high ground at the airport and several planes were pushed onto the birm and saved.

At the Olympia Airport yesterday, there were 3 Coast Guard, a National Guard, King County Sheriff huey...all part of a rescue operation working around the clock rescuing over 150 people from Mason (Shelton) and Lewis (Centralia-Chehalis). The heavy rains have let up but the rivers are slow to fall since it has to flush out towards Aberdeen/Hoquim to drain to the Ocean. In Satsop, about half way, the Satsop River joins the Chehalis River and is predicted to be extremely high today, possibly flooding the highway connecting Grays Harbor to Olympia.

Saturday and Sunday are predicted for mostly sunny!

Yeah, the TV news in some ways just looks grimmer & grimmer. Even after the water goes down, a lot of homes are gonna be uninhabitable. And submerged vehicles (including airplanes) unusable. Bad show. Not as big a deal as Hurricane Katrina-- unless you were one of the people impacted. Just like Katrina, I'm sure that the Red Cross is on the scene, and likewise I'm sure that they can use donations.
Just a thought...

N6EA-NorCal Rain/Snow Enroute

N6EA Well, the forecast is for Rain/Snow for the NorCal Region. Not as "kick-ass" as what we just went through...but a kinder-gentler system. Good luck! I hope this was the deal you wanted!

Not yet, I'm stuck in Vegas trying to get a VFR aircraft into Reno.

I think we are moving the aircraft from the airport to the convention center early Mon. morning. What's the new forcast?

John,
I appreciate it. I would have come on in today, but like I said it's a customer's airplane, so I have to be more careful with it.

WASHINGTON AIRPORT STEMS THE TIDE
Planning ahead spared many aircraft owners in Washington state from seeing their airplanes turn into submarines. Rising floodwaters on Dec. 3 from the Pacific Northwest storms submerged the Chehalis-Centralia Airport in the southeastern part of the state. The Chehalis and Newaukum rivers are prone to flooding during heavy rains, so the airport constructed a raised gravel platform where they could temporarily relocate aircraft.
