Beautiful.

On a clear day, no where in the US is more beautiful than Washington State. Soemtimes, finding the clear day is a problem, but rain forests and snow capped volcanos don't occur without rain.

Have you ever flown over the top of Rainier?

It's a bucket list thing for me. In my 180 HP Maule I'd need a cold clear calm day but I'd like to do it.

I have seen you make that approach landing on 20 a few times. I typically land 02 uphill but sometimes in the afternoon the wind favors 20. You make the approach look really easy. And I agree we live in the land of milk and honey for flying. You can include Oregon in that list of beautiful places to fly with Washington state. The options of mountains, valleys, rivers, Islands, and beaches make it a truly special place.

I prefer rwy 20 because so far I have found a lot of geese and cows on that end, and have had to fly over them to land a little farther, also a go around will be very easy towards the lake, plus its a real fun approach.
When is windy rwy 20 gets real nasty downdrafts, (ask me how I know ) so I recommend you to come real high if windy and approaching 20.

Also I learned the easy but stressful way if going around on 2 turn right crosswind not left. Lower terrain that way.

I will definitely give it a try the next time - before your videos I didn't think it was an option.

Have a look at the chart and you will see a valley extending to the NW. You can get pretty low coming down that valley on approach.

There are only downsides with the approach into 20 1) It is pretty much a "blind" approach so have a look on flyover to find your check points or make a high pass the first time 2) it requires a somewhat low level turn on final to line up w/ the runway.

Since it is downhill, be sure your latest touchdown point takes into account slope.

As Larry said, the go around is easy out over the lake.

Doc is correct if you are landing uphill the go around is to the right up the valley described above.
