Stay away from Grand Forks if at all possible. Yes, they have customs, but they have the most expensive gas in three states, and it's not a friendly airport, really.

Fuel in the vicinity of Grand Forks is much cheaper at Crookston, MN, just 30 miles east of Grand Forks.

Fargo has a nice aviation museum, and hotels and restaurants in the vicinity of the museum as well. Friendly airport, though it's a TRSA.

Or, fly across northern Minnesota to Duluth/Superior WI. Nice airport there on the spit in Lake Superior. From there, fly east along the south shore of Lake Superior into the Upper Peninsula of MI. South past the bridge and you'll skip both Minneapolis and Chicago, and see some really pretty country to boot.

Thanks Mike and David for the advice. I'll re look the options for customs.

We took advantage of our time stuck in Yorkton and visited several spots by way of geocaches. While at the last spot, we heard the announcer for a nearby baseball game. We ended up sitting through all nine innings of the Yorkton Cardinals beating the Swift River Indians. We won a Coors Light backpack cooler and I bought a hat. What a great activity for the whole family.

Today we snuck south to Minot, ND behind a Northeastward running cold front. That wasn't the original plan, but weather dictated a more southerly route than the one I planned to Pinecreek.

Customs was a breeze and we made a quick turn for Flying Cloud in Minneapolis. Why Minneapolis? "Raisin Canes. No slaw, extra toast." If you don't know about that then ask someone from Louisiana.

The 3-hour instrument leg got us within two flying days of Tampa. It was enjoyable to fly some actual IMC for the first time in a couple years. I acknowledge that this isn't backcountry, but this is the community that appreciates this type of trip as an adventure.

Where are we going tomorrow? No idea yet. Might even make western NC with a healthy flying day. Thinking about Hendersonville, NC and camping on the field.

Sorry, cam. We dropped the hammer after leaving Yorkton and picked all of our stops to get the most from each day. We stopped in Anniston, AL Sunday night and finished the trip with one last 3.7 leg Monday Morning. We actually thought about stopping in Huntsville, but went farther to set up the single leg the last day.

28.2 hours total. I have to turn around and fly up the east coast for a school starting this weekend.

As Zane recommended earlier, I've compiled a bunch of notes and photos. I've scheduled time Friday to document the second 2/3s of the trip. It was a very enjoyable experience for all.
