TR: Ground-bound in Minnesota

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: TR: Ground-bound in Minnesota

I could hear the signature Zzz narration as I read through your adventure. Waiting patiently to fly floats to our own lake paradise.

I used to know a guy from Park Rapids too...Ron Faulk (If my memory still works...it's been 35+ years!) used to have a spray outfit up there. I did my first long cross country through there!
It is pretty country, even in the winter!
Great write up ZZZ... brings some cobwebs out of the old brain!! ;)

John,
Ron Falk, a good guy! Yes, a spray plane guy with a stirp on his property. Haven't heard from/about him in a while. Last time I was at his place was to get a set of Skis. He was rebuilding a Stearman at the time.

Seems like you can't hardly throw a rock and not have it hit a grass strip in the northern Willamette Valley area, esp around Hillsboro.
I flew into Apple Valley years ago, a grass strip with a log home, barns / hangars, & apple orchards.
It was owned by "Ramblin' Rod" Anders who was a local TV personality, he hosted a kids show for many years.
A super nice guy and a cool place.

Zane,
Heck, I will sell you my place if you're not in a hurry! Log house, 120 acres, deer, bear, occasional wolf, lots of lakes in the area. Oh, 50x56 hangar and 1800' of landing area. :)

I like the way you think. I'm leaning the same way. The logistics of making it happen are challenging but I'm moving, slowly, toward that very life.

If you can read "The Cremation of Sam Mcgee" I'll call around 9. :D

Yes you did take a pic of Henny's machine. He also has a personal "wagon" on floats. 8)

Zane-

Sorry I missed you. Let me know next time you are in town and I will give you the grand tour of the whole hangar and the Beavers. Then we can take the Wagon down to Brainerd and fly some formation with Brad!!
