??Transferring dat from one GPS to another

I recently pruchased a Garmin 296 fo my dad. I have a Garmin 496. I would like to transfer the data that I have in my GPS to his. Airstrips, points of intertest etc.

I have been told that I can do this, but am not smart enough to figure it out. I have downloaded the Garmin Trip and Waypoint Manager into my laptop. But the directions might as well be in Greek.

Any help from this point on would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks Gary

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

Garmin "MapSource" makes this easy! It's freeware and can be downloaded here:

It's also a useful mapping tool in its own right.

enjoy,

No problem.

After you get it installed on your computer, you can plug in the GPS with the data you want, connect using the tool bar (there's two little GPS icons that when you move your mouse over them say either "recieve from GPS" or "send to device". You know the drill!

I have downloaded the software, I'll hook up the GPS and see where it goes.

Thanks again Gary

Is Garmin support still only PC compatible, or does anybody know of a way to perform database updates and to do the stuff Bumper is describing on a Mac?

Thanks,

The latest version of mapsource topo 2008 is now shipping is for both PC and Mac. Prior to that, there was a separate Mac-only version out for about eight months.

The data transfers can be done with that. I don't know if the database updates can be done on Mac yet.
