Travel Advice: anyone been to Owyhee Hilton lately?

I am sure if I scoured this forum I would find all the information I am seeking, but if I post this I hopefully will get a quick, more organized and concise reply.

We're setting out for a three day two night adventure, us in our 170B and a friend with a 180... I know  but yes, we do have a friend. Anyway, we were going to go to Death Valley and hit the chicken strip and hot springs there, but as it turns out they are calling for highs in the high 90's and Hammer hates the heat. So now we are looking north instead. Too bad, because we were going see if Gump could join us and hold him accountable to his big promises of tall tales

We have been to Soldier's Meadow and thought about spending a night there which puts us in the California, Nevada, Oregon border, and were wondering if anyone could recommend a worthy destination for the second night.

As Hammer as stated we don't ( :?: yet) do sand bars and desert flats, we are more looking for dirt, grass or remote paved strips where camping and hiking would be amendable; a nearby hot spring would be welcome.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

You guys are a strange and eclectic crowd, brave and adventuresome for sure, and full of useful information, if you have the patience to sift through all the, yeah, well, anyway, it's entertaining none the less.

So thanks.

slaving away at the office I was, Hammer too in a manner of speaking...
same goes for today...
but we're off for change tomorrow...

Remember, some of us have jobs... (please refer to the "What's Your Day Job" thread.)

and what with the price of Avgas and all the taxes we've been paying lately, it's a good thing I guess in a bad way.

Nevada and Oregon are looking sweeter every day.

After parking the airplane at Auburn, driving down to Roseville, then trying to get back to Auburn at 5:00 PM on the parking lot... Whoops, I mean I-80, I was in severe withdrawl for my little mountain/desert town and the crisp, clean sky at home.

Clicking on those runway lights at KHTH as we made the overhead was the prettiest sight of the day.

The Scout always flies better going east over the Sierras than west.

Most of the time I don't need lights here to land, stars and the neighbors porch lights are enough.

Makes it easier when the only dark spot is our runway. If I tried that at HTH I would probably bite the big one.

Careful there Gump...she'll find something wrong with you that you don't want to fix. Guaranteed.

And ya...who the hell tries to drive I-80 on a Friday afternoon? I'd rather play Russian roulette with a pistol.

Hey, I figure I'm doing good most mornings by not waking up dead. I don't need anyone else looking for other reasons to hurt.

I was just the pilot on that deal. Reno Chick needed to go see her doc, and I was the transportation. Other than cashing in my winning lotto ticket, I can't think of a single reason why I'd ever want to go west of Calpine.

It's not too hard. My COMM went Tango Uniform last month and I couldn't click the lights on coming home on a dark night. I just lined up on the Safeway parking lot and picked up the runway in the landing light. Not an issue, and not worth reaching back to pull the handheld out of the ditty bag...

I flew into Owyhee Res. State airport on 4/6/08. It needed a little cleanup work, but other that that it was fine. Water is low and there has been a lot of cattle spend a lot of time there this winter. The runway was dry and not too bad. I flew a friend from the Phoenix area in for a look see. Bob
