Tundra or Super Rebel ?

I'm looking at either Super Rebel or Dream Tundra for next airplane . Basicly because of size and metal covering to sit outside. I've found a Tundra 85% complete with IO-360 Superior engine ( Lycoming copy ) about 200 HP. I've looked at all the smaller - fabric covered airplanes and want something I can get into and fly . I'll still keep a 182 or 210 for longer trips . Present light sport ( come on change the 3rd class / drivers license rule ) is ment for little guys/gals and low power. Anyone have either a Super Rebel or Dream Tundra that I could fly (dual ) I'd fly up and pay fuel and great lunch/dinner - Thanks Bill Reid @ [email protected] or [email protected]

I really like that Tundra kit. I'm srongly considering selling the 180 and buying/building a quick build kit and getting at it. I have no knowledge on the murphy rebel.

My understanding is that the Murphy company is going through some turbulence lately. Others on here will know more, but if that's the case, I'd be careful with a Murphy airplane.

Re: Tundra or Super Rebel ?

I can't say on a dream aircraft and haven't flown a Super rebel but have one of the regular rebels and couldn't be happier. Lots of space and 4" wider than a 172. You literally have so much room in there it almost feels unnatural at first. I myself am not a heavy built guy but I've had some pretty burly fellows ride along and it does great with full fuel and 140hp 0290. The luggage room is monstrous compared to other similar aircraft, which was one of the big selling points for myself.

The murphy company is for sale as Mr Murphy wants out. I don't think anyone has stepped up to buy the company yet. However, there are quite a number of Murphy's in Canada and a fairly large support system from other builders. Hop onto the Murphy Builders forum and you should be able to find someone around that can give you a feel for one of the models. Good luck in your search.

Bill, I flew BCTundra machine a couple of years ago, Put about 6-7 hours on it, Nulato to Lake hood and return with a few stops, Dam nice bird, fly's nice, plenty of room and great performance, J-M and his Dad did a beautiful job on his!! Plenty of room for J-M and I in the front, (now that's room on my side!!) Have never flown Rebel!!

Bill, can i ask another question to add to this? Given the choice on the tundra, would you guys choose leaf spring gear or oleo style gear? For use in rough conditions on bushwheels.
