Debrief, share, and hopefully learn from the mistakes of others.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/7958367.stmThat is a chilling piece of video.
Sounds like they bounced the landing in strong winds and ballooned a bit, dropping the wing. The report also says they were both americans.

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”
Zane,
It was FEDEX flying from their new China base. They had a 47 mph headwind. Hard bounce, nose slammed down, nose bounces off, aircraft becomes airborne, nose slammed on "nose first" creating a wobbly wheel barrow effect....then she rolls over.
Be very carefull with extremely strong headwinds. If the landing is not nailed just right....she will want to fly again.
Take care,
bob

It looks like a classic pilot induced oscillation - the wind may have been a factor but their indicated airspeed would have been just that, the effect would have been a slower groundspeed. Was it gusty? Do pilots of large aircraft use a higher approach speed in gusty wind conditions? I remember getting into a PIO like that one in a C210 on a day when the winds were gusting to over 50 kts and the tower was reporting severe wind shear. Yoke back and a little power salvaged a pretty good landing under the circumstances. Turbines require spool up time and don't respond instantly. Could that be a factor?

A sad reminder that at any time you could make your last mistake.
