Cessna 182, stock sized tires, I ran tire pressure according to the POH 49 front , and 42 psi in the mains. Some of the strips I go to have mud, others are a bit rough. Was thinking of lower the air pressure in the mains, recommended or not?
I don't know about a C-182, but in an Ercoupe, C-150, and my current C-172 I run 10 psi less than the book spec for gravel operations. It makes the bumps a bit smoother, but adds a slight but noticeable increase in takeoff distance.
I drop mine way down sometimes, like 25 but I carry a little 12 volt compresser to reinflate. Takeoff roll is ridiculous on asphalt that way, so figure 1.5 times your usual. On my j model, I also found out the hard way how important it is to zip tie the braided steel brake lines to the gear legs. I broke both brake lines once right where they go from braided to solid because of the violent flopping on a rough strip. Almost got to the barbed wire fence on that one.
