Unbroken - the movie

I cannot find the words to describe what an amazing person Louie Zamperini is. Now Angelina Jolie directs the movie starring Jack O'Connell as Louie. Coming out this Dec 25. Its hard for any movie to compete with a book but the trailers look promising. I'm going to watch it.

The municipal airport in Torrance CA is named after him, guess it was his home town.

The book told an amazing story, and even more amazing when you know that the author never met Louis Zamperini. She did all the research for that book over the phone and via internet.

Louis Zamperini was indeed an amazing gentleman. Consider what he went through in the camps and yet he went back to Japan and actually met face to face with some of the most brutal guards from the camps.

Amazing story, almost unbelievable that a human could go through what he did. Unfortunately, Louis Zamperini passed away just a few weeks ago. He'll never see that movie, but he lived it.

Get the book and read it. It is a classic tale of just how tough the human spirit can be.

Just a couple months before he passed, my team and I were at Torrance/Zamperini Field on a work related matter. Inside the terminal is a small museum dedicated to Mr. Zamperini. We went in to check in, and two older Gentlemen were near the display. It turned out to be Mr. Zamperini, and a friend/family member, updating the display.

He said hello, and about 30 minutes later we realized we lost all track of time. He was sharp as a tack, and was very excited about the movie. He was very taken with Angelina Jolie for sure. :D

One of our group is a real runner, and he got on the subject. His stories of his track career were just as inspiring as his wartime exploits. A great man.

Re: Unbroken - the movie

I predict that the movie will pretty accurately follow the book, as Ms. Jolie seems to be as taken with Louis as he was with her (who wouldn't be with her?????), and both he and the book's author have provided technical advice for the movie.

It is one helluva story, too. At times while I was reading it, I found myself feeling sick from the torture that Louis and his compatriots endured. Laura Hillenbrand's writing style is very graphic.

Great read, and I look forward to the movie.
