Just a couple months before he passed, my team and I were at Torrance/Zamperini Field on a work related matter. Inside the terminal is a small museum dedicated to Mr. Zamperini. We went in to check in, and two older Gentlemen were near the display. It turned out to be Mr. Zamperini, and a friend/family member, updating the display.
He said hello, and about 30 minutes later we realized we lost all track of time. He was sharp as a tack, and was very excited about the movie. He was very taken with Angelina Jolie for sure.
One of our group is a real runner, and he got on the subject. His stories of his track career were just as inspiring as his wartime exploits. A great man.
