What you are doing in this video and the training Cary mentioned is very good high altitude training. Keep in mind that for your low altitude river and mountain work, energy management is necessary to have enough kinetic energy (airspeed) and potential energy (altitude) to maneuver efficiently. While we seldom use full deflection of any control save throttle, we glean every bit of ground effect, down hill gravity thrust, wind management, gravity thrust of altitude, etc, as well as throttle, to safely turn and even return to target at 1g without hitting the ground. From a three feet altitude start and slightly more than 1g pull up, that is a whole different animal.
