Unusual attitudes recovery training

This practices are lots of fun :) and gives you a good feel for your plane (do it with a qualified instructor though)

Re: Unusual attitudes recovery training

Definitely such practice is worthwhile, taking the airplane to its legal limits. Taking it farther, I'd recommend upset recovery training (not possible in a "normal" certificated airplane) or a basic aerobatics course. I thought I was a pretty fair stick & rudder pilot, and I was already a CFII, but a 10 hour basic aerobatics course taught me that I had yet a lot to learn!

Motoadve,

What you are doing in this video and the training Cary mentioned is very good high altitude training. Keep in mind that for your low altitude river and mountain work, energy management is necessary to have enough kinetic energy (airspeed) and potential energy (altitude) to maneuver efficiently. While we seldom use full deflection of any control save throttle, we glean every bit of ground effect, down hill gravity thrust, wind management, gravity thrust of altitude, etc, as well as throttle, to safely turn and even return to target at 1g without hitting the ground. From a three feet altitude start and slightly more than 1g pull up, that is a whole different animal.

Keep the sticky side down.
