Updates to my Cessna

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Updates to my Cessna

I just finished an 11 month long reconditioning/upgrading of my 1967 Cessna 180H.

The list of work completed:

Vacuum system removal
Garmin G5
Electric DG
Digital Tach
EI Digital Oil Pressure/Temp gauge
EI Digital Volt/amps
EI Digital Manifold Pressure
All new switches and wiring
406 MHz ELT install
LED NAV/Anti Collision Lights
Various sheet metal repairs
Replaced nearly all of the hardware in the plane
All new Glass
Complete Strip and Paint
Lightweight Utility Interior
Selkirk Sound Deadening Foam
New 6 bolt wheels and brakes
29 inch Bushwheels with extra rubber
Big tailwheel with tubed glider tire
Tanalian Aviation Horizontal Stabilizer STC

Constantly seeking improvements never stops for some of us. I'd like to install a modern autopilot. Get the Kenmore 3190 gross weight increase and add a PPONK Super Eagle, but I'm planning on flying the heck out of it over the next 5-10 years, and it's ready to do that.

Hope to see you all out and about.

The panels are bare aluminum right now. I'm going to fly them like that for a while and consider changes and decals, then have new ones waterjet cut and screen printed for the permanent installation. Also, upholstery is not updated yet. As I'm sure that you know, this work is never actually finished...

I'll post those pics later.

Re: Updates to my Cessna

Man, that’s quite an undertaking, and the result looks great.

I once thought of doing the Kenmore GW increase to my 66 H model, but I hated the thought of having to change to the bigger (185 style) vertical fin. To me, 180s with the original tail are some of the prettiest planes ever, and yours is right there now.

Nice work in any case.

Thanks MTV! I also like the stock fin and rudder on the 180. The 185 vertical is at least 4 inches taller, which is unnecessary additional surface area on a land plane.

Well, someone once told me that it's also not really "necessary" on floats at 3190, or maybe even a tad bit more.....

The panel and interior are airworthy, and everything is working well, but not finished yet. I will post more pictures as I progress...
