US Vets and ALL Supporters Please Read

I believe this is of enough interest to put in the "campfire" section instead of off-topic. Forum Admin please be generous in your discretion.

BCP member 182 STOL Driver put me in touch with the person below. A former US serviceman is making a movie about the families of US Military MIA from the Vietnam era. He's attempting to leverage the power of the internet, and launching a campaign on Kickstarter to fund the production of the movie.

This might be an ideal way to demonstrate that "crowdfunding" website campaigns can do something a lot more important than fund the next iPhone app or electric roadster. This could get younger people personally involved in thinking about a 50 year old national tragedy, and making it relevant to their lives today.

What I offered to do was post the information here, and ask for all Vets, families, supporters and citizens to participate in this effort in several ways:

Spread the word among your friends, pilots, families, etc.
Get your kids, grand-kids, and their Facebook BFF's to spread the word.
Make a small donation on the Kickstarter campaign to show your support.
Contact the film maker to offer any help, connections, resources, or ideas.

Thanks for posting this.

I personally witnessed the devastation caused by the Khmer Rouge when I lived in Cambodia, and have many friends who are shattered due to the lack of closure.

This is worthwhile project that I will make a donation towards....................Rob

EZ Flap-thanks for your effort to inform us about this worthwhile project. I was in the 1st Cavalry Division's air cavalry squadron 1970-71. We knew U.S. ground forces were rapidly leaving the war. In order to facilitate services to families of the missing, we recovered something/anything from known crash sites where men went missing. This was before DNA type identification. Missing is a bad deal for all.

When one of our helicopters went down, every flyable helicopter in the Troop was sent to the site. If a large enemy force was involved, every flyable helicopter in the Squadron was bounced. Our Med Evac or any helicopter in the area would go in under fire without gunship support to evacuate our pilots and crews.

I will send the url to Jim Kurtz, my old operations officer who now runs the 1/9th veterans web site.

Seems worthy, I contributed. Raising $235k in 30 days is a tall order, however.

I've known Richard "aka Hornet 33 " for many years and would be happy to donate to the cause. I challenge other Vets ,Family's and others to match or beat my donation . I've worked on several other movies with Richard ( The Vietnam experienece - helicopter pilots and crews the History channel ) and he is hard working for Veterans. Aim High !
