Proof that the larger your useful load the more stuff you take camping with you...

C of G must be out a bit if he needs full down deflection elevator?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the photo has been digitally enhanced in any way because it's on the great Intranet and everybody knows stuff that's on the net MUST be real!

The older I get the better I used to be

I worked on an Islander up in Alaska that the company used for short hops across the bay from Homer to outlying areas. I remember it hauling pax, fish, soda, mail, u name it and it would haul it.
I recall a story of it holding up a twin otter on final into anchorage because it was going to slow.
I think they use these in Idaho still for backcountry hauling.
I have seen some pics on this site of a Trilander also.
I rode in it a few times and I think it would be a hoot to fly.
Anyone out there ever piloted one?

I have ridden in them several times and don't really like the experience. Do you remember "washing machine Charlie" I think from the Black sheep movie? Well the islander suffers from the same thing, Asyncronous vibration from the engines not running in sync. The sound waves go from one side of your head to the other like WAWAWAWAWAWAWAWAWAWAWAWAWAWAWA till your ears fall off.
That is Challis Aviation in the background, there are lots of sheep around that country so the Llama must be for some foreign client. Probly french

I almost forgot the pilots wore earplugs and headsets plus the pax were always offered earmuffs.

those islanders are good performers but on rough strips those long spindly gear legs and small tires can cause cracks in the spars. I guess Wup better stc some bushwheels for them.

I sent the Beaver pic to my dad. Told him to show it to Kenny Bellows next time he sees him. Should be interesting.

LOL I guess not. Couldn't tell. Maybe my BSOMETER(
TM) needs some new batteries.
I guess it would be different if we were sitting around a campfire telling our tall tales. I'd be a lot easier to pick up on the BS.
I need to get out more.

A relative of mine was going to a fishing trip in Alaska a couple years ago and they hired some outfit to fly them out to the fishing camp. The pilot loaded up the gear till water was washing over the floats them him and 4 guys piled in the plane. Took a while to get on strep and when the finally got in the air they stayed real close to the ground...it was a hour flight. I have no idea what plane it was but I guess the saying "if it will float it will fly" is not only true Beavers.

Whee---- I am curious where the picture in your avatar was taken, I know it is in Oregon and at a state airport. It looks a little like Owyhee
Reservoir State but I'm not sure. Bob

I thought so, the Department of Aviation, sent the new signs down for me to put up a while back. I had to have a friend of mine haul them down in his boat, as I couldn't get them in my plane. I flew down with another friend and changed the old faded ones for the new ones. Have you been to the Owyhee strip since we worked on the Hilton Hotel front porch? Bob
