Ubetcha. Been in Ely about a year and a half. Our other pilot just retired, so I'm alone and unafraid with 3 Beavers to fly...

I'm short the commercial seaplane rating (but have the private ASES) and only have 15 seaplane hours. Otherwise I meet everything. I've been trying to land a USFS/NPS flying gig since I left he Navy. It's unlikely I'll make it past OPM but might as well apply.

Ha! Likewise. This is the first time I’ve seen a maximum age that I’m past. Huh... Time hurries on.

These are fire jobs, and fire retirement is mandatory at age 57. So, 37 plus 20 years to vest in retirement in that system, equals 37 oldest to start.

Announcement is out again today for 2 USFS Beaver pilots at Ely. Three-week window to get applications in. Max age 37 unless on a Veteran's Preference waiver. Minimum float time in announcement says 200 hours, but 500 is the actual requirement. Year round positions flying floats, wheels, and skis. They removed/changed some of the stuff on the questionnaire that probably kept some applicants from making it to the interview process. PM me if you've got questions.

No it didn’t get cancelled. The OPM notice probably was generated because the entire USFS hiring program crashed for a couple days. It is back up now and they added a couple days to the application window, but it is officially closed now

Youse guys who felt old after seeing 37 as the cut-off haven't the slightest idea what "old" is. I'm twice that age! Guaranteed that I feel old!

Hiring announcement out again today for two USFS Beaver pilots in Ely, MN. Application window closes on 03 Dec 2019. Same qualifications and age limits, supposedly easier application process. We will see...

Sonofa... Another opportunity missed because I’m always too chicken to take a chance.
Looks like a cool job. Somebody is going to get a sweet gig.

500 hours on floats. I suppose that narrows the group.
