Utah back-country videos on YouTube

Hi everybody,

I have my own videos http://the-adam.com/stuff/movie/moab2009b.html which I made during my latest adventure http://the-adam.com/stuff/htm/moab2009b.html into the Utah back country. I mounted an Adrenaline Camera camera on the right wing of my Piper Cherokee and had the digital video recorder (DVR200) in the cockpit. Some of these landings are like "Where's Waldo" trying to find the airstrip I'm landing on.

My favorites are the 2009 October 3 landing at Hidden Splendor (above) with its narrow-canyon approach and the 2009 November 9 landing at Dirty Devil (below) where you can see my shadow.

I have downloads of these from my web page, but YouTube seems to do a wonderful job of formatting and presenting these for a wider range of browsers and computers than I can. I have been enjoying a few of Jerry Killam's videos on Vimeo (which seems to take more resources from my computer than YouTube).

I'm very happy with the camera's medium resolution and its wide-enough angle view.

Man am I glad to see a Cherokee 140 out in the backcountry, especially Dirty Devil and Hidden Splendor. It gives me some hope.

It also further demonstrates that its pilot proficiency and good judgement over macho airplanes that opens up the backcountry. Nice work!

looks like an awesome area to fly in! When you landed I kept thinking, shit get over to the left... GET OVER, then I realized the camera is on the wing. :)

Thanks for posting those video's I watched all of them about a week ago. I loved them! How was performance in those strips, I won't doubt your cherokee as people often doubt my Mooney. Its important that we understand our performance and limitations. If the plan & pilot can do the mission then I don't see anything wrong with it. Although others sometimes do!
You should check out a few of the Idaho strips, but they actually have obstacles you have to clear so performance is even more important to understand. =D>

Clint Eastwood as Dirty Harry once said in "Magnum Force," "A man 's got to know his limitations." Same with an airplane. When I had trouble getting out of Ceder Mountain at 7000' MSL, the subject came up of going into the same-length strip at Tavaputz at 9000' MSL. I pointed out that the combination of my airplane and my skill could get in easily enough, but wasn't going to get out with enough to spare. "Not today" are two important words in the back country.

Here's Red Creek, near Phoenix, Arizona, that took me a couple of fly-over visits before I got enough nerve to go in there. Now I'm comfortable with it.
