Turbine Otters are just plain awesome performers. Actually, stock Otters are awesome as well. More power makes them that much better.

It doesn't hurt that the guy at the controls has tens of thousands of hours of experience either. My guess is that Mr Claus could embarrass most of us in any aircraft of OUR choice.

That's from 2013 when Paul delivered us a months worth of food while we were out mountaineering. We were walking across the glacier to give him perspective since the light was really flat that day. Awesome pilot and a great guy.

Sorta on topic: Otters also have awesome wake turbulence when they're on skis--learned that as a student pilot near Fort Richardson waaaaaaaay back in December 1972.

G44 Your Uncle Richard told a great story about an emergency with a Porter when flying into Eagle. He was great when we had him here for the forums three years ago. He passed along a lot of good information to the pilots who ate it up by the spoonful.

Something else about Paul is he often flies his demo in the Otter, then hops in the 185 and then the cub to compete. All very different and all flown to perfection. This year I have a picture of the Otter lifting off in under 100 feet. There was a 15kt wind.

My uncle is still flying his 185 and Scout at 82 years old. My dad doesn't fly much any more but hasn't stoped completely, he is 87. I hope I'm still flying when I'm their age. I am very lucky that between my dad, uncle and grandfather and many others I had some good guidance over the years. I love sitting around talking flying and general life experiences with my dad and uncle, I sure wish my grandfather was still around. The flying they did over the years was incredible. My uncle has given many talks over the years, I really enjoy hearing him speak no matter what the subject is.

Paul is a master in what ever he flys.

Umm, you guys know there's a howling wind blowing during that short landing stuff don't you? When the wind speed matches the power-on stall speed it will be short. Helps if it is steady too, without a 20 knot spread on gusts. As often quoted on this forum "wind is king".

umm, ya, it's quite obvious, never the less, skilled piloting by many of the participants wind or no wind.

I was there. Garmin Pilot reported 16mph, AWOS 15kts. Neither of these is a "howling wind" from anywhere I've lived. Nor do I know of any airplanes whose power on stall is 16mph, not even the SQ's.

Yes, "howling wind" my ass. That's kind of a "normal wind" when you're working.
