I guess that's because aside from a select few guys that bring up highly specialized rigs the majority of the Gulkana turned Valdez crowd are the "run what ya brung" type. And they bring their planes in just like they fly them every day.... well... minus some gas
I understand that the longer arm of the big wheel necessitates a better brake to achieve the same braking power on the wheel, but if you have enough brake to lock up a big wheel why do you get more braking effect out of a smaller tire? I would think the increased contact patch in addition to the softer compound would lead to better braking on the big wheel. I know if I lock up the little wheels I just go sliding down the strip, don't lock up the biggies so I don't really know for sure, but guess they would stop a tad shorter... just thinking out loud here...
