Re: Vashon Ranger 7

I know that empty weights tend to be minimized by manufacturers, but if this one is truly at 875 lbs., it seems to me that that is plenty for a 2 place airplane designed principally as a trainer. Add in a couple of 200 lb. folks, that leaves 45 lbs for fuel, or 7 1/2 gallons. If it's the usual 4 gph sipping O-200, that's good for an hour training flight with reserves.

And heck, even Ol' FAT Fart here is less than 200 lbs (at the moment).

I agree that more time in the air would be helpful, but every small airplane is a compromise, even the ubiquitous 152. Granted, it can carry more fuel and go farther with those 200 lubbers, but most lesson plans are built around a maximum 1 hour period.

Anyhow, it looks like a pretty decent little airplane. I wish them well.
