Amazing pics Vick. I recognize Lovelock. Did the gas pump work? I landed there on the way back from JC a few years back - to get gas, by myself after departing my group for a more direct route. Gas pump no worky. Luckily a care-taker of sorts was there to give me a ride into town with gas jugs to get some 91.
I was warned that there might not be gas there so I landed with enough that I could have popped down to Fallon if they were out. Stead would have been my preferred backup but they were NOTAM'd closed in prep for the races. Lovelock worked out well - I needed some time to climb to get over Reno and the pass. Lonely place, had a bit of an eery feel to it, kinda felt like a set for a Hitchcock movie - great fuel price though.
Hey Vick,it will be nice to hear another round engine in the auburn/grass valley area. If you come by the lake to the south I am by the observation tower, got a new camera for a low flyby Crome roof on the ridge by the power plant. C-ya.Chuck
Incredible photos - What an epic trip, doing the entire country open cockpit! Are you keeping the Stearman at LHM with the Stinson? Hope to see it one of these days........
You might want to hit the Eagle Field fly in next year down outside of Dos Palos....Unfortunately it is usually the same weekend as Golden West, but Eagle Field was a primary training base during WWII....Some of the PT17's that were utilized there for primary training show up each year.

I made a couple of stops in Ia but no overnight. Only low ceilings I hit were in Nebraska but they cleared up pretty quickly - nothing like what we saw last time!
