Awesome stuff. I'm sure you've mentioned it in every thread, so sorry if it's a repeat question, but what's your camera of choice for these outings?

Tragically, ATXCitab (Hank Sasser) perished in a crash in August 2014. He was a great guy and will be missed. -Z

Re: Video: Flying Is...

Thanks, guys. Glad you enjoyed. I had a lot of fun making this one because it allowed me to relive some of my flying adventures over the past two years. Makes me feel very fortunate to have gotten to do the flying I've done.

ATX, I have an old original Drift, and a GoPro Hero 3. I like (and dislike) them both for different reasons. I think the Drift picks up color much better and is easier to mount and use. It is still my preferred camera for these reasons. I think the images from the GoPro tend to be sharper if you can get the mount right, and I like being able to preview the GoPro on my iPad in the cockpit when all the tech gremlins take the day off. However, for every few minutes of decent video I've shot with either camera, it seems like I have hours of crooked, camera didn't turn on, battery ran out, pointed in the wrong direction, jello picture, bug on the lens stuff! :D The good news is, even when the video stinks, the flying is still just as fun!

This doesn't hold a candle against Zane's video of my "beast".. But it is my first video and I am kinda proud of how it came out...

Ps... This video stuff is damn hard work to edit...

I'll use any excuse to fly, including that one! However, it is a little depressing to get home after an especially beautiful flight, thinking you've got once-in-a-lifetime footage, only to find out that you screwed something up and didn't capture any of it. For example, in the pink sunrise footage in this video, one of my cameras got it, the other didn't show it at all. I would have been bummed if neither gotten any of it.

Thanks, Matt. That means a lot, coming from a craftsman like you. Your videos are one of the big reasons I started messing around with a camera in the first place.

I know what you mean, Ben. As much work as they take, a guy starts to get kind of attached to them!

Nice work, Ranchpilot! My favorite shots are the chase plane ones. Hopefully someday you can chase my Bearhawk with your GoPro on. I'll put out a notch of flaps for ya. 8)

If you're crazy enough to let me fly behind you, I'm in!

Nice work on the vid with Ben. Maybe the next time you make it back to Jackson, your Bearhawk can be the feature!
