Video of a short field takeoff in my 182.

This is a video of an early morning flight from Aeroacres OG30 to Bend, OR. BDN over the Cascade Mountains. OG30 is a grass strip of 1800' with some trees on one end and a towered power line on the other. Do you stay in ground effect and get some air speed, like I did in this video. Or do you get best climb speed and climb out that way? Bob

That is a neat strip, I have been in there once.
With the wind and turbulence I would have departed just as you did.

Any software out there to model this?

There must be some modeling software available that could show the climb profile of of both techniques. Put in a few (or many) variables and then look at the altitude vs distance and time. I know it must be out there, just maybe not available to the general public. Anybody know of such sotfware?

Don't know of any software or online help. Here's a passage out of the book Flying the Beech Bonanza. Every aircraft should have similar performance in that at some point the no flap performance will overtake the takeoff with flaps. Zane, maybe you could insert my image here. It's late and I can't remember how.

If you would like to share the video you can establish and account at MSN Hotmail. There is a feature there called "Skydrive" that has 25 GB of free online storage space. You could set up a public folder, upload the video to the public folder and post the link to the folder. Just a thought.

i really prefer 20 flap, 29", push the nose over at 2' off the ground first,
then let her 'rip...should result in 12-1500 fpm in most 182's...
solid back-country performers...
