Video: One of the Prettiest Mornings I've Ever Flown

The video doesn't begin to do justice to the quality of the light from that morning. The luminescent sky merging with its own reflection on the water was a completely euphoric experience.

Thanks, DP. You Alaska guys might get that effect all the time, but it was a first for me. The video doesn't really convey it, but it felt like I was completely surrounded by the pink and blue light on all sides. It was almost disorienting, in a good way.

Great Video Ranch Pilot. That's not the Boar's Tusk over around Pilot Butte is it? Haven't been around there in a about 20 years?

Thanks all. Glad you enjoyed.

Same general area JDW, but that spire is called Chalk Butte and it's about 20 miles north of Boar's Tusk up toward the Winds. It's not normally too noteworthy, but the light kind of made it stand out that morning.

Natgeo, move over!

Awesome footage, awesome editing.

As much as we all love 'all things airplane', it's soooo refreshing not to see a prop artifact, tailwheel dangle, or leading edge eyebrow.

Definitely artwork!

Re: Video: One of the Prettiest Mornings I've Ever Flown

So nice!

But you're right--no video can quite capture what you saw. That will be something to store in your own memory banks.

One of my favorite memories is flying back to Greybull from Sheridan, with a classmate who was then the County Attorney at Basin, some 33-34 years ago. We took off in a light snow at Sheridan, and at 12,000' I could tell that we were only a couple hundred feet below the tops. It was almost sunset. I asked ATC for a block to 14,000', and as we started to climb, I told her to get prepared for something spectacular.

That "something spectacular" was the sun just setting behind the Wind Rivers, still just high enough to light up the snow but create marvelous shadows. It was actually much more spectacular than I had expected. We see each other about once a year, and each time, she starts the conversation with "Remember when you flew me back to Greybull from Sheridan?"

Thanks for sharing.
