Water Skiing

I really didn't want to start a new thread just for this picture. But I couldn't find any other thread to put it in. So, maybe if you have some good water skiing pics, you can put them here.

Found this picture here: http://flightaware.com/photos/view/923086-4eca3e4ca5b64d48efb7c934ba1ca525849a5d43/all/sort/votes/page/3. May or not be Photoshopped. Kind of looks like it is to me. :-k

Re: Water Skiing

The power lines across the water look pretty close for the plane to be on that body of water??????

Re: Water Skiing

I've thought a time or two of doing some water skiing on my retractable wheel skis, (on the skis) mostly because I've never seen any pictures of anyone else doing so  Anyone ever hear of a ski equipped plane water skiing?

Re: Water Skiing

Thanks Wirsig!

So, nobody has any shots of a RETRACTABLE WHEEL SKI plane waterskiing? How about a retractable wheel ski plane, with a fold up mountain bike inside, waterskiing? I'll get back to you all on that, might take a few days.

I see MauleGuy has the tail down also, I guess he was coming up on a snowbank?

Fun is fun, but I hope that photo was photoshopped. That's crazy close to the skier.

Just 1 comment on trying your wheel ski's on water!!
Like the Mauleguy: do it in shallow water!!!!!!!!!
Doing it it in deep water really sucks!! I mean the wheel hole in the ski's really suck lots of water!!!!
I know I'm a wuss but I got away with it once and decided not to try again, Comes a time in life when you use all the HP you got and it is with shear luck and nothing to do with skill and technique that you are able to get out of the hole you just dug yourself.

I am claiming the first shot is fake. [-X

The cub however towing the skier... #-o [-X Oh geez....and he goes under a bridge... #-o [-X Real for certain. =D> =D>

Courierguy- I dont think I would ski with the hydraulic ski's. If they are down, thats a different topic but if retracted and you have the hole with part of the wheel sticking through...hmmm

This whole water ski thing is crazy to most but is really a great technique to know. Its all about YOUR speed and YOUR tire size. To much speed and you porpoise, to little you sink.

Brakes or no brakes? Its water. No brakes is preferred by most I bet. Why would you want brakes on when approaching the shore.

Why is this whole water ski topic such a taboo to discuss. You see a lot of folks using the technique. The technique does work very well when done properly for both applications. Some would argue that you can land and roll out just as short but this is just not so. Pull power 15' from the shore and glide onto the beach.

Then again, dont try this at home

Re: Water Skiing

Yeah, a wheel gray area (pun intended). How wheel skis would react in water, with the skis down/wheels up. No way would I water ski on the 6:00's. I'll keep my eyes open for a place to try it out. My guess is they'll do just fine, they have a lot of upturn and a lot of surface area.

I did just a little 29" Airstreak skiing before winter hit, and a fair bit of 26" Airstreak skiing all last summer, and was surprised how much more floaty the 29's were.

As far as a practical means of getting into a small area: not much use for me anyway, I can already land shorter then I can take off, so if I really wanted to I could ski up and land on a 50' sandbar, but the takeoff would be hairy.

Yes, I have a Birddog book with a picture of one watersking on retracts. I'll have to look for it. I've got AWB2500's on mine, but no desire to recreate the shot.
