West coast paint shops

Found some info with a search but just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for good paint shops on the west coast. Looking for a quality job with strip and control removal. Still doing homework on respective merits of Imron and JetGlo. Ideally you could speak from personal experience and can comment on how yours came out and how it has held up over time.

Re: West coast paint shops

HI Vick, here's my 2 cents but given that a good paint job will be around 15k, I invested an extra k with http://www.schemedesigners.com/ I dealt with the owner there, Craig Barnett and in the end, they did an OUTSTANDING job... here's how it works, you pay $500 up front, then you tell them what you are thinking about...then they make a bunch of different drawings after what you told them and they give it to you in bunch of different colors...then you keep on calling/e-mailing them about changes and all until you are totally satisfied. Then you pay the remaining $500. You can make as many changes as you want for the same price of 1k... It was excellent for us.

They provide you with the drawing on a personalized website that they build for you. You can see my tundra's website here:

I nearly went for the black and green version...I still love it!

Anyhow, good luck, cheers, J-M

Wasn't there some buzz somewhere on this forum about somebody at Corona? You might want to do a search at that airport. Wish I was more useful than that

Re: West coast paint shops

There is a paint shop at Compton CA which comes highly recommended by our local Comanche guru here. He has had two airplanes done there and both are near show quality. Both of the Comanche guru's airplanes are here at Whiteman KWHP, and he will gladly show the airplanes to you to see the shop's work before you make any commitment.

There is also a small private aircraft paint operation at Whiteman itself which has done one airplane I've seen at a good low price, with an above average quality job.

As with anything and everything... you'll pick your price/quality/fancy balance. I'll be glad to put you directly in touch with either the Whiteman group or the Comanche-Compton connection at your leisure.

Salinas and Santa Maria both had good shops, it's been years since I even thought about paint. Maybe they are both still around. worth a google.

Re: West coast paint shops

Mathews Aviation in Yerington is really good!
Have been there a couple times now and seen numerous planes come out. They will do you very well! Full strip and paint takes about 6 weeks or so and will be around $8500.

Call me if you want Vick.

Re: West coast paint shops

Thanks all, great feedback. Salinas and Yerington keep getting mentioned, spoke with the guys at Yerington this morning.

Thanks for the link to schemedesigners JM - those look fancier than what I had in mind but great to see how many ideas they push you.
