What books should I buy to learn more abotu back country & mountain flying?

Both books are single volumes. Sparky has just revised his. Check his website at www.mountainflying.com. F.E. Potts website is www.fepco.com.
Both sites have lots of information plus a large portion of each book actually on the site.

I also recommend Sparky Imesons books, especially the Mountain Flying Bible, when learning about mountain flying and Galen HanselMan's books to learn about the cool places you probably want to visit.

I talked to Galen earlier today and he should have Fly Utah! in stock by the end of next week! That means you only have a week left to get in on the pre-publication offer. Galen has extended the pre-publication offer (a FREE GH-UT chart with a Fly Utah! book order), until the day the books arrive. This chart, which normally sells for $19.95, is a WAC scale chart that features all of the airstrips listed in the book. I have seen the Chart and it looks awesome. It is already starting to get a little cooler in Utah and we aren't having any significant fire problems at the moment so I hope to meet lots of you in the back country soon.

Not to hijack the thread, but thanks for the update Rob. I was wondering what the latest was. Last I heard Galen hoped to have some shipped earlier for those of us that pre-ordered, but it sounded like the Chinese weren't playing nice. I'll be anxiously awaiting it...and hoping that the fires stay away.

Oh, and back on point, I also would strongly recommend Galen's books as well as Sparky's. The "Mountain Flying Bible" is an excellent reference manual that I recommend to all people that I do FR with, whether or not they plan on doing back country flying or not. It is an excellent "refresher" for coving those subjects that maybe you didn't quite grasp in your earlier ground schools or things you've just simply forgot. I know I had quite a few of those "light bulb on" moments while reading it. Lots of good rules of thumb too.
