What Can You Tell Me About This One?

This prop was found in my great uncle's stuff when cleaning out his basement. My brother in law ended up with it. We are trying to figure out what it went on. Anyone?

It's a Buffairo, and the tips are have copper covers on them.

A person with one of these said it was off a Jenny. That would also match the OX5 marks. Curtiss was in Buffalo.

After the war, there were several companies offering crated Jennies they purchased for almost nothing from the factory for resale. Apparently, one could get new spare parts for them right into the 60's from the remnants of the enormous leftover inventory available.

Google found 3 references to Buffario propellers, none of them exactly match yours but they were all used on Curtis airplanes before 1920 .0ne of them had holes to match an OX-5 engine, and another one matched a 150 HP Hispannio-Suzia motor.

I gave him a bottle of Crown, and delivered and stacked firewood on Christmas eve, I still haven't talked him out of it!

Re: What Can You Tell Me About This One?

About 25 years ago in St. Louis, MO, I was awarded the job of cleaning out an old timer's possessions from the house where he lived for 50 years prior to his death. It was like the hoarder show, but there were some real treasures buried in his piles. Of the few items that I didn't send off to the land fill, was a prop that has a very similar looking planform, hub, tips and bolt pattern. The unit that I have has about a six inch long crack between two of the plies, which I assume they took it out of service for. Great find Evan!
