I just chaanged over my exhaust. In the process I had to relocate my remote oil filter. A\nd chage the angle of one of the fittings (pipe thread)commin out of it. It's one of those deals where you can't get another turn, or don't dare, and to have the fitting pointed in the desired direction, it is not as tight as you would want/leaks.
I am assumin that this is not an uncommon situation. What would be a good compound to put on the threads to help seal?

Get a pipe thread tap and/or die, and cut just enough out of either side of the fitting that it snugs up at the perfect angle.

Stuff called "Fuel Lube" would work. I think there is another brand called EZ-Turn also.

Permatex and Loctite both make hi-temp thread sealants that are easy to find in local stores and in small tubes. I think I used Hylomar on my 45* oil line fittings. It's a flange sealant but I always seem to have some in the tool box. May have been Permatex, though. Usually have that around as well.

I used some hardening permatex on it the first time. I'm sure I disturbed it tightening the line to the fitting, but hoped it would be a little forgiving, wrooong . Been thinking about some tite seal, it seems like pretty tough stuff. . I have some fuel lube, and my dad has some ez turn, but I was thinking something that hardened/stiffened/got prrety solid would be best.

Kevbvert has a pretty good idea. May do that with some sealant.

Use kevbert's solution or get another fitting, perchance to get one with the threads at a different angle. Trying to monkey rig it with dope isn't the good fix

You need a fitting that swivels. Go to anplumbing.com and look through the aluminum and steel adapters. You will find one that works.

Permatex Form-a Gasket Part no. 3H. Good for all fuel and oil fittings. Stays slightly soft and goey. No alcohol, it will soften. One 4oz bottle will last a lifetime. Find it online for about $5.00. Works every time!!

I called Aviall hose shop and they are going to shorten my previously used teflon (HI $) oil lines. Cost is for new fittings only, so that's pretty fair. Better lines, more flexible line. I will be able to get the fitting tighter using these. Got in touch with my buddy Wagon wrench who rebuilds radial engines. I'm guessin nothin has more leaky fittins than those round engines He recommended permatex 98H Hi Tack. Comes in a can with a brush applicator. I put a light coat of that in the fitting and put it together. Hopefully that will be the end of the leak. Now just waitin for my redone oil lines.
