Agreed. Tragically one of the worst light aircraft accidents I have read about. Prayers...

Other than the fact that the airplane burned, I don't get the "too much fuel" comment. Curious as to what the problem was. Freeway's not the greatest place to try to land, but in the big city maybe it was the best they could come up with. It sounds like they failed to make any sort of controlled landing, instead crashing into a concrete divider. There sure isn't much left of the airplane to figure out what went wrong..

Re: When too much fuel is not good...

Gasoline is only good when safely feeding the engine. At other times it is an extremely dangerous product.

Storing, transferring and transporting gas has created unimaginable consequences under certain circumstances. The commercial/military side of aviation has tried to ban it from their operations. Any gas is TOO MUCH!

Example the UO-11 (PA23-235, AZTEC) was designed for the Navy. Navy says no AVGAS here, can not use it. Piper turned to the civilians and over 4500 Aztecs were sold. (20) OU-11s were purchased by the Navy as a token good will gesture, there is one flying here in Hawaii still.

Wiki...
U-11A United States Navy designation formerly UO-1.
UO-1 United States Navy designation for PA-23-250 Aztec with additional equipment; 20 delivered, later re-designated U-11A.
