Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Thanks Zane.... it took way more time than I anticipated but I also didn't anticipate doing as much as I did to it.

Matt,
It is a '57... cruise's at 145 - 150 mph (IAS) at 20" and 2150 with 12.5 gph. My engine only has 20 hrs. on it now and each time I fly it the temps drop just a bit more allowing me to lean it just a little bit more. I am not one that feels comfortable flying LOP so I run it right around 50 ROP. It will run 165 mph at 23" and 2400 rpm but fuel burn is getting up there into the 15-16 range. Empty weight came out to 1643#.

A few other pics (very similar to what Greg is doing with his bird...just not as nice)

Early pic...months ago. The heat shields shown are not what is on it now.

Crap, I forgot I even had it. I need to send it back to you. I haven't tried it yet because I haven't really done much shooting while flying lately.

I think the guy who makes them goes by Addicted2climbing on here. Quality product.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I haven't flown since last week, but my interesting experience of the week was a visit to Helicopter Transport Services here in Aurora to pick up a friend who flies for them. My dad and I got a tour of their hangar and got to fondle the controls of the Skycrane. 8)

This is the nicest, largest hangar I have ever been in (save for the blimp hangar at Tillamook.) My dad and our pilot friend (a kiwi living in the states.)

Flew up into Idaho to the middle of nowhere. And who would have guessed there would be such a cool taxi service.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I flew up to Truckee today to meet up with Aaron (DoubleUgly) and his friend Steve who is a pilot for Snowbird's. We had some pancakes at the EAA breakfast then it was off to the North Circuit. Our first and only stop ended up being on Stampede Reservoir. We had too much fun fishing with our bare hands and helping a Jeep driver who was stuck in the mud. By the time we got out of there the wind was really kicking up so we headed for Donner Summit and back to the valley. It was still a fun day of flying even though we only hit one stop on the circuit. I forgot my good camera at home so you'll have to put up with these IPhone pics.

Flew over the old Van Vleck strip on the way up, that's Loon Lake to the north

There were thousands of Kokanee in the stream that feeds into the reservoir

I spotted this floatplane on Folsom Lake on the way home, looked like an M-4 or maybe a Pacer with squared off wings

Re: Where did you fly today?

Noreen and I went up for a short flight to check out the colors on the mountains that surround Utah Valley. The snow is getting pretty low, or I guess i'm not quite ready for winter!

Amazing fall weather in the North West!

It should be good the rest of the week.

Lets go flying!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Snake River, Hells Canyon, Oregon

Pittsburgh Landing, 2 runways, always land on the short one, as it is 850', but runs uphill
Image

Mules on the runway at Dug Bar, not scared of airplanes!
Image

Temperance Creek Ranch for breakfast, reservations required. It is directly across the Snake from Big Bar airstrip. 3,000' long, wide, land/take off either direction. About 9 miles downstream (north) of Memaloose.
Image

On the deck for breakfast, looking across the Snake at Big Bar Strip.
Image

Beautiful day for flying. Warm down on the river.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Hey Looper, yes, central Minnesota lakes country. (thus the BRD - Brainerd Crow-Wing County Muni) Flat landscapes, but nice with unlimited water to land on, summer and winter.
