Where is Pilot Ryan?

Has anyone heard from him? Anyone seen pictures of the completed airplane? Seems like he was so close to being done with his 185 project.
Seems strange, he used to post frequently and keep us updated and now nothing. Hope he is ok.

Re: Where is Pilot Ryan?

He's been posting on Instagram. As far as I can interpret from his posts, sounds like the plane is done except for maybe some avionics and interior. He had pictures of it flying. The paint job he chose looks way better than the ones he was asking for opinions on, IMO. Looks like it came together well.

I was wondering the same thing. Definitely like that paint job since I'm not into the swoopy, curvy modern look.

I'd really like to ask how much he spent getting that plane this far.

He had quite an appetite for quality stuff.

Where is Pilot Ryan?

He’s pretty active on the facepage too. Last I saw he was trying to buy some hydraulic skis off someone.

Here I am!

Thanks for the post Kurt, I really appreciate the concern. Things just got really interesting really fast. I'll get around to posting more about it when I get the airplane home later this year.. The airplane is waiting for me over in Washington. Shouldn’t be too long until it is back home at Flying Cloud. Just waiting to get some more test flights in before I head back out and treck back east. I’m just happy to not be signing any more really big checks.

Tony is our inspector and in this case he is also the test pilot. What a brave soul he is! I wouldn't touch this airplane with a big stick (atleast not yet) yet alone fly it out of this one of a kind strip at the last second of possible daylight during the last day we could get it out of there this winter. Really interesting weather conditions during the flight too. At least I am happy to report 170TAS (mph) at 24 square. Not bad for an odd engine on a 185. Really makes me wonder what the extra power of a 550 will do... [-X

That is my mom Rosy on the registration page. I co-own the airplane with her. I'm also the operator since she doesn't really want to touch an airplane again. She has held that stance since my dad and I got into an airplane accident a long time ago. We weren’t injured and the airplane was repairable so I’m really not sure why she still feels that way. She still is a licensed pilot but she hasn't flown in a long time. Bummer isn't it?

I just can’t leave good enough alone! Haven’t bought the skis yet but I am pretty interested in getting some if the price and the timing is right.

-Asa, it’s missing carpet, better seats and the center stack. It got a Selkirk interior which really isn’t too bad at all. Crazy to think that I have had a stack of boxes sitting in the closet for almost a year full of my avionics. Wonder what took so long...

-Hammer, instagram is an awesome tool for photography and for sharing it. There are a lot of people who post aviation related content over there. If you have a spare hour or two one of these days, maybe you would enjoy checking it out.

Re: Where is Pilot Ryan?

Ryan,
Plane looks great, send a panel picture. For a 185 I like the Airglas hydraulic wheel skis.

You picked the right prop, that is one reason its so fast.

You probably would not pick up much more speed down low with the IO-550, some but not much. It would pick up more speed up higher but wow, its expensive, I know, I did it to one of my 185's. I did it at overhaul time. A light IO-470 powered 185 is a sweet airplane!

Re: Where is Pilot Ryan?

Thanks for the update Ryan. Nice looking airplane, I love the colors. I'm lucky to be on here myself, haven't ever got signed up with Instabook or facegram, or any of the others. I guess I'm prob missing out on a lot of stuff also.

Keep the pics coming and a few details now and again.

Re: Where is Pilot Ryan?

Ryan,

Thanks for the update, and thank you for sticking with a tried and true Skywagon paint scheme! That’s always been my favorite scheme for these things, you done good.

I hope it continues to come together for you.
