Well JC 2013 is out for me as I'll be in the middle east sucking sand. Caveman ends 2 days before a Hawaii adventureI I've had planned for months. I'm thinking Valdez will soothe my BCP thirst quite nicely considering I'll be in the sandbox till after the snow flies. Anyone here flew commercial up? Where to stay... what days are best? ect.

I'm planning on going this year, flying from Whitehorse CYXY...if its a nice day, I'll clear customs in Haines or Yakutat and fly the coast...if its bad, I'll fly and clear in Northway, fuel up in Tok and quick rip over to Valdez. I suspect I better book hotel now or else I'll pitch in the bivi under the wing!
Glad to hear you are all planning on attending. We hope for better weather too. We do have customs in Valdez I have heard of people coming Whitehorse direct. Let me know if I can be a help on info. I would get on a hotel. Totem inn is where most people go to eat Mountain sky and best western are the newer ones.
I didn't make it for the STOL competition, but I drove my wife and sister down there for a long weekend once. We stayed in this campground (if you're not mil, it's still available but at higher rates): http://www.militarycampgrounds.us/milca ... campground. It was really nice and secluded and just down the road from the airport.
Let me know if you're going to go, I've been trying to catch it the last three years and if I can make it this year we could meet up.
The military campground sounds nice but the website says it doesn't open until Memorial day. I'm starting to think about going up again this year as well.
I went last year. Wx sucked but had fun anyway and met some cool folks.
We flew commercial into Anchorage, then rented an RV right on the airport grounds. (they came and picked us up) They had a deal and was only like $300 or something. Much cheaper than the car and hotels.
