If you want to fly helicopters really cheap, or you want an interesting way to commit suicide, I have some plans for a part 103 leagle ultralight helicopter. Cost to built is under $1000.00 plus a Rotax engine. I have seen photos of one flying made from these plans, but I have no intention of trying it myself.

True for ANY flying, especially rotor. Think the only time in life I really had $$$ in my pocket was when I had no airplane of my own, and was getting paid to fly others. It was nice handing in the can at the end of the flying day with a page full of squawks, knowing it wasn't my credit card gonna pay for it.

I guess I thought the Hughes 269/Schweitzer 300 was/is the "most affordable" (sure it is!) of the bubble nosed "parts ballet" aircraft.

I have my rotorcraft PPL. That makes me an expert on how long the odds are at winning the lotto, since it drives me to purchase tickets in spit of the horribly long odds......
Lotto is truly a tax on the statistically impaired!

Lol. Nothing cheap about a helicopter, especially the ratings!

My rotorcraft/helicopter rating was not intended to be a trophy rating-it just ended up that way. I thought I had the inside track to a part time/3 day weekend job (med evac), but just before I took my PPL test I found out it was, unfortunately, BS. I went ahead and took the test, so I had at least something to show for it, and canned the plan for instrument and commercial......
Win some, lose some.

It is a hell of a lot of fun, tho!!
