Wild Horse habitat fly-over video

I did a flyover of the Twin Peaks Herd Management area in NE CA / NW NV in order to get an estimate of the number of wild horses and burros. This is a little long at over 5 minutes, but it is a great rendition of a classic song and I couldn't get myself to cut it down. Enjoy.

I could live out there, if the jackasses would have me.

Stunning video and beautiful music.

Thank you for sharing.

What camera rotation device are you using and do you have any pictures of the setup?

Mustangs are often referred to as wild horses but, since all free-roaming horses now in the Americas descended from horses that were once domesticated, the more correct term is feral horses.[2]
The English word "mustang" comes from the Mexican Spanish word mestengo, derived from Spanish mesteño, meaning "stray livestock animal".[3] The Spanish word in turn may possibly originate from the Latin expression animalia mixta (mixed beasts), referring to beasts of uncertain ownership, which were distributed in shepherd councils, known as mestas in medieval Spain.[4] A mestengo was any animal distributed in those councils, and by extension any feral animal. ...

Nice video. I jealous of your turret!

The pigs on Catalina, Is, California where also domesticated animals left from the Spanish as food when they sailed the area. We saw them over the the years start to grow tusks and be more aggressive. Some were also report to have evolved carnivorous, like the bores in Mexico.

I couldn't find a song titled "Feral Horses" so I went with Wild Horses. Some of these guys go back the Spanish Conquistadors, so like Eucalyptus trees and Star Thistle, they are not native but they sure seem like part of the landscape.

As I've found out, there is much controversy around the Wild/Feral Horses, more than what to call them.

Very nice video. Aerial photography technology seems to be getting better and better. Can't wait to do it myself.

I know, it just would not sound as cool "... feral houses couldn't drag me away..."

My mistake may make me rich...with help of Wikipedia.org

Write a song called "Stray Livestock Could not Drag Me Away". Then give to the Stones to sing?

Re: Wild Horse habitat fly-over video

Are the burros wild or indigenous? I have a soft spot for burros, as when I was a kid my aunt & uncle had four or five that they used for packing into the Olympics. I spent several summers around those critters and they can be very lovable-- IMHO more so than horses.. I know from reading old hunting & wildlife stuff that back when it was not so politically incorrect, people used to shoot wild horses and esp burros in the name of helping the desert sheep. I guess the burros hogged the waterholes (or fouled them) to the point that they made it pretty tough for the sheep.

Make a trip down to BLM's wild burro range in Marietta, NV.

Place is full of 'em, and they are characters.

And, it's a fun spot to fly to.

Re: Wild Horse habitat fly-over video

Whatever the language roots involved, only the strong/intelligent survived to live a feral existence. The unpredictable sources and frequencies of food/water/disease//weather/overpopulation/predators/injuries would thin the herd to only the strongest over time. (Mother Nature is synonymous with "ruthless" over time).
It is a romantic freedom, but a harsh existence, non-the-less, in all but the best of times.

I enjoyed the video-and the music-good combination.....
