windshield tint color

I have a 73 U206 with Green tinted windows. I have to replace the windshield and do I go back in Green tint? What are the benifits of each color. Why was green the color for aircraft and cars? I have 1 206 in Clear, and 1 in smoke but dont know if I prefer one or the other.

All of the green windows I have seen turn milky with age.
Of course most of them are pretty old right now, so maybe newer materials won't have the same problems.
I read somewhere once many moons ago that green tint was the best color to help the pilot spot other aircraft. I'm pretty sure they were talking about sunglasses at the time but I would think windshields would be the same.

Keep the Greasy side down!
I just put windows in the Cherokee and opted for clear. I'm not a fan of tint. especially at night. You can get windows with uv block which maybe I should have done. I definitely woud in a warmer climate - such as Mo. Cherokees can be warmer than Cessnas on a sunny day.

Airspeed, Altitude, Brains. You need 2 of the 3!
The Oldtech
As you go from Clear to Grey to Green, the visible light transmitted goes down respectivly, and the uv light transmitted thru goes down at a greater rate. If your worried about heat buildup while parked & uv interior damage go with a green with blockers I guess. I personally don't like the green & they look worse with age. I'd go smoke gray myself.

Clear + Rosen sunvisors + reflective shade stuffed onto the top of the panel while parked outside. I think any tint to a windshield would really bug me.

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”
I like clear, too. But, all my flying is for fun and sight seeing (and taking lots of pictures from inside the plane). I would think any type of tint would hamper any good picture taking.
I don't even like tint on the windshield, driver and passenger side of my trucks. I think it's all a personal preference.

With the smoke tint, you'll lose the last 15 minutes of light at the end of the day. That could make the difference in one more jump load.

Since Skydivers don't jump at night color would be ok. If you do any flying at night I'd say stay with clear. Years ago when I flew nightly runs in a 310 someone put in a dark grey windshield> couldn't see out airport lights hardly. Riding down glide slope was really scary not seeing runway lights until almost over them.

I have this approach plus sunglasses. This way you can have all three clear, green and smoke!
