Wing/cowl cover recommendation?

Anyone got a recommendation for a particular shop/manufacturer for wing and cowl covers? time to finally buy. Oh, and I've got VG's. Kinda thinking about sewn on spoilers for the wing covers.

I've had really good luck with Lynn Cunningham, but lately I've got some feedback that he's hard to get hold of.

He makes good quality stuff, and will customize it to your specs.

I ordered a set of the "sunbrella" covers from Kennon a couple years ago, and they didn't make it through two winters before they tore in half, due to UV exposure. Duh!! They were billed as the super UV resistant answer to all our needs. Contacted Kennon, and they said "Huh". That was it. I also ordered an engine cover, which turned out to be far too short, leaving the bottom of the cowl open. Double Duh!

Lynn Cunningham makes good stuff, and he's responsive to the buyers needs, at least in my experience.

Cunningham Covers

I have had a Cunningham Cover in dark green Sunbrella for about five years and it has not faded or worn appreciably.

Lynn has the measurements for M5's and M7's on hand, but you will have to measure and tell him where your OAT probe, antennae, and lift rings are located.

Lynn likes to fish so he is probably tough to find in the summer months.

I get my covers from Peter Moore at Arctic Covers at St. Andrews Airport, Manitoba (the GA airfield outside Winnipeg). I've used his covers since about 1997 on my Maule. The current cover has survived 45-knot winds in Wyoming and Nunavut. It's getting a little frayed after four years in these brutal conditions. I just stopped through there on the way home a couple weeks ago and he's making me a super-dooper ultimate Arctic cover for extreme Arctic conditions. It's a heavier material with sleeves going out on the wing roots. When it arrives I'll post some pix on his website.

Also got a set of prop and blade covers this spring. They were a perfect fit with the measurements I provided him. Also have his quilted engine blanket. I use a homemade engine tent that covers the whole front of the Maule and reaches down to the ground where it's secured with snow blocks or small boulders. Handy for working on the engine at extreme temps. At -40°C with these covers it takes the Reiff preheater about three hours to bring the O-540 up to where it'll start easily. Oh yeah, I've also got a trio of cowl plugs from Peter. I used to have a pitot cover (which he often throws in for free) but the winds shredded it and I have yet to get another one. Using a thumb off an old glove in the meantime. Not very fancy.

Anyone have feed back with Linda at Alaska Wing Covers? I have seen one set of hers and they were two years old and looked pretty good. The time is near and I feel behind the ball. Again...

Although not quite as tight a fit as some covers, I like the "Bruce's Custom Covers". They last 4 years outside, two covers totally encapsulate the important sun rain and dust entry points, and additional covers are avilable for wings, engine, prop(2 or3 blade). The cabin cover encloses the wing roots and the beginning of the flaps which is fairly important on Maules. Time to fit the two main covers is about the same as opening and closing a hanger door.

Just talked with her today she promises less than a two week turnaround time for now on most orders. Haven't ordered yet though, checking around.

I got a look at two of her past projects and went ahead and ordered. Wing covers w/spoilers & cowl cover. Delivery about the 25th. Very nice Lady and reasonable prices. It always makes it better keeping your dollar local. I'll see about posting pictures when I get 'em.

Re: Wing/cowl cover recommendation?

I was about to post somehing about Wing covers but found there was already a thread...so I called Lynn Cunningham as per recommended on this website. When the lady answered I asked for Lynn, she quickly advised me that he had passed away.... RIP, sounds like he took real pride in his work and did great work. I offered my condolences and proceeded to ask few questions. The lady was very helpful assisting me with anything I needed...one of those customer service people that actually cares and is knowledgeable, she had answers for every questions.

I havent made my mind up yet as to whom I will have make covers for the Tundra, a friend of mine has offered to do the sewing so my question is, what type of material are you guys using? I dont want anything that will scratch my paint too badly.

Thank you, BCT

Re: Wing/cowl cover recommendation?

I believe aviationcovers.com is the same company as cunningamcovers now.

Bought a canopy cover from them a while back. Quality construction.

Can't comment on durability. Only had it out one season and sporadically since getting the hangar. No obvious signs of wear. I'm happy with my purchase.

Re: Wing/cowl cover recommendation?

I've been running Kennon covers on my wings, horizontal, and cowling for about 4 years with no complaints at all.
