We have the Quazar tips that we bought from Stein. Very happy. We lit up nearly half of a 3200ft runway from the ground. Impressive.

Yes, I have both in my hangar at this moment, Quasar CX are the most daylight visible, both by the published numbers and by my direct observation.

HID might project a tad further at night but they have a fairly narrow beam which limits their effectiveness for daytime recognition purposes. You won't find any seaplane operators still using HID pluse lights around here. Also, there's something about the instant on/off quality of LEDs that really draws the eye.

Knots 2 U tips don't fit post '73 Cessna wings with a sportsman very well either, if that's a factor.

Re: Wing tip lights Cessna

I went with the Quasar on my ‘68 182. I like the look of the LED array vs the single lamp on on the K2U. Bonus with these is the steady Taxi position (lighting up a diffused smaller portion of the array), Landing position (entire array full brightness), and Pulse.

Installation was very straightforward. Stene supplies the switches, circuit breaker, wiring and connectors. The most complicated part for me was modifying my Horton cuff to fit the standard cuff tips (the tips aren’t available for the Horton STOL cuff).

Video of my son landing my plane with the Quasars on Pulse and the mid wing lights alternating. It’s amazing how much brighter the Quasars are.

Re: Wing tip lights Cessna

I recently saw a C185 that had LED wingtip landing /recognition lights (Quasar?),
as well as stock LED landing lights in the nosebowl.
These were rigged together as wig-wags-- the LH wingtip light linked to the RH nosebowl light, and vice versa.
Really made it visible from a long ways off.

Highly recommend Quasar system for Stene Aviation. You can configure the recognition lights either wig wag as Hotrod says or wingtips then nose bowl as I have done. I bought the entire system from Willy. I'm very happy with the entire LED setup.
