Wings to Adventure

I finally remembered to setup the Tivo to record this show. Has anybody seen this series yet ? http://www.wingstoadventure.com/ channel 606 (Outdoor Channel) on direct tv. Looks interesting.

Episode three has a story about Maules.

Episode 12 is about Taildraggers.

Some San Juan Island stuff (Did I mention my father was Assistant Harbor Master at Roche Harbor a few years back)

I tried to tune into this show for the first time Wed. evening, but all the screen showed was ordering information for the channel. Sorry, Directv, I'm not going to spend $50 bucks more a month for the Outdoor Channel. I always thought this channel was in my Total Choice Plus package...oh, well.

Mark, maybe you could burn a copy of episode three for me sometime?

Doug,

Not a problem. I'll try and figure out where they're at in the series. I recorded the 4:00 am episode today and will watch it when I get home from work.

Mark,

You should be a team player and digitize the episode and post it. That's one of the things I love about the internet... I don't have a TiVO or anything like it, but if I miss a show, I just go to mininova.org or torrentspy and download the episode(300-500MB), and it's usually the HDTV version! Unfortunately, like everything aviation oriented, Wings to Adventure is nowhere to be found.

You might try telling them to add it "ala carte". You are supposed to be able to do that. I added it while visiting my parents home. I "think" they had directtv, could have been dish network though. Anyway, it was 1.50 a month to add it by itself.

Wings To Adventure New Season

Hello: I just found this forum while doing research on a Maule.

The new season of Wings To Adventure begins June 26. That episode has a profile on the Beech Staggerwing. Not exactly a backcountry plane.

But, this season we will have pieces on a couple of Cubs, a Cessna 180, a Stinson Station Wagon, a Murphy Rebel, and several more planes suitable for the back country. Days and times are posted at www.wingstoadventure.com.

And, yes, you can add the Outdoor Channel to either Dish or DirectTV for $1.99 a month by asking for it "a la carte."

I'm planning a shoot in Washington state in August, and would like to take the crew to Idaho in October.

Tom,

Glad to see you found our little corner of the internet. I have been watching your show and have enjoyed it very much. You should probably join us at Johnson Creek in July... ;-)

backcountry staggerwing?

About that Staggerwing, Fly Idaho has neat pictures of a Laurence Johnson and his Staggerwing at Dewey Moore on Big Creek, with two other guys and a big salmon. I never thought of the Staggerwing as a backcountry airplane either, but hey, it's a taildragger and, with an R 895 (or an R 1820--monstrous!), it can probably climb like a rocket. I don't know about its low speed handling or landing characteristics, though. Anyway, my hat's off to anyone who can land (and take off) at Dewey Moore.

Thanks for bringing us Wings to Adventure. I'm looking forward to it.

Can't even imagine flyin' a Staggerwing into Dewey Moore even with the big motor. Lawrence Johnson had great big brass clanking ones.

Tom,

Glad to have you here. I've been looking forward to seeing the show since I heard about it, but alas, I won't have access to satellite tv for another few months. Does your contract with the network allow you to sell the program online? Digitized video podcasts....it's the future! Even ABC started making LOST available for download on their website the day after the new episodes air. Any way you can get those commercials in front of the viewers' eyes...

Let us know how your trip into Gastons' goes.

Caught an episode the other night. Very Very Nice!

Great segments and that Spartan was absolutely beautiful.

Gotta say the Cessna 150 had the dirtiest belly I've seen in a while. You would have thought the guy would have put a polish on his pride knowing it was going to be on television.

Tom, you forgot to mention the disposable light sticks for emergency lighting. Cost about a buck each, last twelve hours and cast a nice red glow in the cockpit.

Looking forward to the cub episode...Hope it's the Lock Haven built "Super Cubs" 8)

Anxiously awaiting the next episode! Keep up the excellent work.
